History: The Afghan military campaign of the Soviet Union lasted for almost 10 years – from 1979 to 1989. Those who fought there, was called by the soldiers –internationalists. But whatever they are called-internationalists, Afghans, a limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan – we remember all and honor the memory of those who have not returned. In the vastness of the former Soviet Union, there are few cities and large settlements where the memory of the victims in Afghanistan would not be immortalized. 

August 2, 1994, the day of the airborne troops in Krasnoyarsk on Poklonnaya hill (the intersection of the Yenisei and Igarskaya) was solemnly opened the monument to soldiers-Afghans. Authors: the sculptor Boris Musat and architect Sergey Gerashchenko. This monument is located on the slope of Poklonnaya Gora, offering a panorama of the historic center.  In the center of the memorial is a soldier with a lowered gun in his hand, behind his back – a granite arch. As a model for the sculpture was not a soldier, the student of the Krasnoyarsk art Institute and his slight, fragile figure with extinct eyes represents the pain that they carry the last war barely started to live young men.  The monument is lined with red granite, next to the combat vehicle landing. On the memorial plaque embossed with the names of all Krasnoyarsk citizens who died abroad, bringing peace and freedom to other Nations. At the monument to soldiers internationalists are always fresh flowers, and in the days of anniversaries traditionally the Afghans soldiers and veterans of local military conflicts.
